Swim Party

Due to the cancellation of the canoe campout, the Blackbourns were gracious enough to host a pool party.  From the looks of it, the boys had a great time!  We all thank you!

New Troop Leadership

“The best progress is made in those Troops where power and responsibility are really put into the hands of the Patrol Leaders.”  ~Baden-Powell

This is real decision making power.  And it's not just Patrol Leaders.  All of the troop leadership positions have a hand in making the Troop run.  As a troop leader you will:  Plan and run troop meetings, pick troop outings, where to camp, what to do, plan advancement opportunities for all troop members, select High-Adventure programs, determine troop policy, help other Scouts along the trail to Eagle, and more.

Leading the way….

Summer Camp 2007

Summer Camp 2007
July 8-14, 2007

When we arrived we registered, took a tour and set up camp.  It was tent camping.  The weather was hot.  Thankfully we had the swimming pool to cool off in.  We had our swimming tests.  For most of the week we ate at the mess hall except for one night.  The food was good.  Todd, Jake, and Josh G. got high reviews for flag raising.

On Wednesday the parents and family came up for family night and attended the Tapping out ceremony.  Evan C. and Eric A. were tapped out for OA.  There was a great ceremony with Indian dancers.

At the end of the week when we had packed up, we were chosen to receive the Gilwell Staff Award but unfortunately there was a typo on the “Canyon Camp” on the staff.  The Gilwell Staff award is given to the troop that behaved well all week and is given by the Canyon Camp staff.  Good progress was made in advancement by the scouts.  A good week was had by all.

Hennepin Canal Campout

Hennepin Canal Bike Trip

May 20-23, 2007

On Friday, we drove down to the canal, set up camp, and went to bed.  Saturday was a hot day, but good weather, no rain.  For breakfast we had pancakes that were good.  We biked along the trails.  For lunch, we had cheese, crackers and summer sausage.  We biked again.  We drank lots of water that day.

After biking, we stopped and made pizza for supper.  Everyone cooked their own.  It was really good.  That evening we fished in the canal.  On Sunday, we woke up and had a sugary breakfast of cereal bars and donuts.  After that we packed up and went home.

Tri-County Gun Club

Tri-County Gun Club

Polo, IL

April 27 – 29, 2007

Friday night we set up our tents for camp.  We really didn’t do anything except throw clay birds at each other.  For cracker barrel we had meat and crackers.

On Saturday, we shot guns.  Supper consisted of pot roast cooked in a Dutch oven over a fire.  It was cooked by the Cobra Patrol.  Later that evening we sat by the fire and ate cherry pie.  The weather was cloudy with no rain.

Sunday, we got up and ate breakfast which consisted of breakfast bars, OJ, and pop tarts.  Other than that, we just packed up and went home.

Scouts: Eric A, Jacob A., Alek B., John B., Chance C., Josh G., Killian L., John M., Adam M., Alex M., Todd N., Andy P., Zach W.

Scout Cabin - Oregon, IL

Friday night we set up the tents, and had cracker barrel which consisted of cookies.  We also searched for fire wood.

Saturday breakfast consisted of scrambled eggs, orange juice and sausage.  Pat, Alex, and Josh went for a jolly good run to White Pines Park and back.  Dave gave everyone a review of our knots before they built the monkey bridge.  While we did that, the new scouts got some of their stuff signed off for first class.

We tested the monkey bridge.  Then we had an egg toss.  Lunch was cold cuts, orange juice, and milk.  We also went for a hike.

Sunday, we packed up, ate breakfast of cinnamon rolls, pop tarts, and granola bars then we headed for home.
