About Us

Scouts BSA Troop 85 - Dixon, IL

Currently we only offer a Boy Unit - Girl Unit will require 6 Girls to organize a unit. We have tried and have only one enrolled in a Rochelle unit.

The Troop Charter originates in 1940. Troop 85 was re-organized in 1980 by members mostly from Pack 85 and Pack 324 from Washington and Jefferson Grade Schools in Dixon. Since that time the Troop has enjoyed a Troop Committee with many members being active long after their own sons had grown and moved on to new horizons.

TODAYS TROOP 85 - Boys from all religious beliefs are welcome to our Troop.

Our SCOUTS BSA (Boy Scout) Troop is for  youth that are between 11 (and entering 6th grade at school) to 18 years old can be a Scout. You do NOT need previous experience as a Cub Scout to be a Scout. The only requirement is a joy of the outdoors and a desire to have fun and learn about leadership and morals!

The Scouts BSA (Boy Scouts of America) maintains that no member can grow into the best kind of citizen without recognizing an obligation to God. In the first part of the Scout Oath or Promise the member declares, “On my honor I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law.” Boy Scouts of America, therefore, recognizes the religious element in the training of the member, but it is absolutely nonsectarian in its attitude toward that religious training.

The Church of the Brethren in Dixon as part of their Community Outreach provides our Troop a wonderful place to base its operations from. Our activities as members of the Boy Scouts of America shall show respect to the convictions of others in matters of custom and religion, as required by the twelfth point of the Scout Law, reading, “Reverent. A Scout is reverent toward God. He is faithful in his religious duties. He respects the beliefs of others.”

Recruiting from the current CUB Packs in Dixon. Mostly Boys from Dixon Public Schools or St. Mary's and St. Anne's Catholic Schools. Occasionally we have had members from Polo, Franklin Grove and Amboy communities.

Boys that are NOT MEMBERS of CUB Scouts are WELCOME and encouraged to join out Troop. (age 10.5 to 17)

Venturing Crew 85 - Dixon, IL  Inactive effective 2021

We use this program as an extension to our Troop for our Older /Scout Program. This can include Older Boy Scouts or Boys that have not been in Scouting and also Girls since this is a COED program. Venturing provides an opportunity for our older youth to participate together in programs that have only been offered to older Boy Scouts in the past.

Our Venturing Crew is Co-Ed for young men and women who are 14 years of age OR 13 years of age and have completed the eighth grade and under 21 years of age. Venturing's purpose is to provide positive experiences to help young people mature and to prepare them to become responsible and caring adults.  You do not need previous Scouting experience to be in Venturing.  Currently registered Boy Scouts may also be in a Venturing Crew with no additional National BSA Fee (unit dues or fees may be required). Girl Scouts are also welcome and encouraged to participate in both programs as it fits their needs (Sorry there is a National BSA membership Fee).
